Tin is a silvery-white and soft metal, which is very similar to lead and zinc, but looks brighter. Its hardness is relatively low, and you can cut it with a knife. It has good ductility, especially at a temperature of 100°C, and can be spread into very thin tin foil, which can be as thin as 0.04 mm or less in thickness.

Tin is also a low melting point metal, its melting point is only 232°C, so it can be melted into a liquid with good fluidity just by using a candle flame.
Pure tin has a peculiar property: when tin rods and plates are bent, they make a special bursting sound as if they were crying. This sound is caused by the friction emitted between the crystals. Such friction occurs when the crystals are deformed. Strangely enough, if an alloy of tin is used instead, it does not make this crying sound when it is deformed. Therefore, people often identify whether a piece of metal is tin or not based on this property of tin.
